House defeats increase in CAFE standard

Washington,D.C.-Last week(April 20)the House of Representatives defeated an attempt to increase vehicle fuel economy requirements that was opposed by The Fertilizer Institute,the Agricultural Retailers Assn.,and 10 other ag associations as adding to the cost of getting fertilizer and other inputs into the fields and performing daily farm and ranch chores.The effort,which was voted down 254-177,would have increased CAFE(corporate average fuel economy)standards to 33 miles per gallon over the next decade."
