Frank and Patti Faria of Escalon, Calif are not quite the newcomers to the Guernsey breed that many think - as you will soon discover. However, once they decided, in 2000, to add some elite Guernsey genetics to their dairy operation, they made an almost immediate impact on the breed. From their foundation cow, Land of Living P Gratitude, EX-94, came Faria Farms Gavin, their first foray into sampling Guernsey young sires. Buoyed by the acceptance of Gavin and frustrated by a lack of diversity on theactive AI list, the Farias embarked on a nationwide, well-publicized search for a unique and deep-pedigreed young sire. Mar Ral Royal Mentor-ET was the one they chose. His incredible acceptance by breeders across the country has made him a household name in the breed as a young sire. We checked in with Frank Faria recently to get some background on his operation and gather his opinions on a variety of topics.
