Ammonia truck driver gets speeding ticket

Salina, Kan. Saline County Shcriff's officials say that the driver of a pickup truck hauling 6,000 pounds of anhydrous ammonia has been cited for traveling at an unsafe speed Aug. 18 when his truck hit a concrete box culvert and tipped over, causing the ammonia tank to leak about half the load. According to Sheriffs Capt. Brian Shea, the accident caused a valve on the top of the tank to break open, releasing the ammonia in a large vapor cloud that hovered over the tank for a spell and caused the evacuation of two nearby homes.
