Senate committee approves three-year CFATS extension; chenmical security conference convenes in Baltimore

Some 700 chemical industry representatives and government officials gathered in Baltimore, Md., July 5-8 to discuss the current state of the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) program, as well as a host of other security issues related to the storage, transportation, and sale of chemical products.Attendance at the fifth annual Chemical Sector Security Summit, which was cosponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA), was up significantly from the 350 that attended the first conference in 2007.
