Nurseries Join in the fight against the glassy-winged sharpshooter

Fearing the spread of the glassy-winged sharpshooter and with it the grapevinekiller Xylella fastidiosa bacterium causing Pierce's disease, growers are becoming more and more reluctant to accept shipments -- to the point of refusal -- of greenstock material from commercial nurseries, especially those shipments originating from infested counties primarily located in Southern California. As a result, the nursery industry is taking major precautions -- both voluntary and state mandated--in order to curb the spread of the glassy-winged sharpshooter and the threat of Pierce's disease through their industry.
