Exploring the community nurse role in family-centred care for patients with dementia

The population of Europe and other developed nations is ageing; by 2020, every 1 in 4 people in the UK will be aged over 60 years (Eurostat, 2015). Primary prevention of some conditions, such as cardiovascular disease, is becoming more successful, and the treatment and survival rates of some cancers are improving. Thus, a higher proportion of the world's population is living to an old age.This has led to an increase in the number of people living long enough to develop multiple morbidities associated with old age, particularly conditions such as dementia.
