The company's primary targets are "world class" and major gold, polymetallic (zinc, lead, silver), copper and tin deposits, with the Southern Mt Read volcanic project (SMRV) on Tasmania's west coast being described as a company maker. TasGold has six exploration licences in Tasmania, covering 393sq km, and three exploration licences and 11 applications in Papua New Guinea, totalling 13,500sq km. According to the company, the granted ELs and applications all offer excellent mineral deposit potential; they have "high grade" historic exploration results and are in the same or similar geological terranes as existing world class or major gold and base metal mines.
