摘要

Universal Instruments set out to take the lead, within its marketplace, in positioning systems. What it learned, by designing within the constraints of size, power, control complexity and manufacturability, has led to pioneering work in the field of variable reluctance motor (VRM) technology. As well as the first target - precise and robust positioning systems for placement gantries - the technology has proved a key enabier of the flexible platform placement machine philosophy, and is now opening routes into markets outside its core customer base of electronic assemblers.
