It is a little ironic that the Explorer of the Year title returns to West Africa at a time when the region's junior exploration rush has seemingly dissipated, but then Orbis Gold Ltd is far from the madding crowd of ASX-listed West African explorers. For starters, it does not base itself in the Australian-African corporate village of West Perth. Neither did it enter West Africa during the initial rush of activity in the period 2005-2009. And, even when it did arrive in Burkina Faso in 2010, it picked up ground in the south-east of the country while most of its compatriots were busy exploring at the other end of the country.
