Opening the mid-November event at the Perth Sheraton Hotel, Keith Yates said it was a great time to meet, "with the gold price having recently burst through 800 US dollars, the first time since 1980. "At the last NewGen in 2005 it was 500 US dollars and it is even more heartening when we think back to this conference in 2001 when the gold price was plumbing the depths at 273 US dollars. "What a resurgence--and hopefully there is more to come, especially if we endorse the forecasts of Pierre Lassonde (New-mont Mining Corp chief executive).
