Is what's good for the problem broiler farm--the one with poor-performing flocks, higher costs and lower returns--good for the average or even the high-performing farm? Wayne Farms decided that in the case of temperature recording the answer was, yes, it is. Five years ago, the company began experimenting with data logging of broiler house temperatures on some "high cost" farms and the results were so revealing that data loggers began showing up almost everywhere along the company's integrated production chain: broiler houses, breeder houses, pullet houses, chick busses, egg trucks--even in the processing plants, in chillers, coolers and delivery trucks. Today, the company conducts temperature logging on all its farms.
