The Renault-Nissan alliance and Daimler jointly announced September 28 that they've signed a deal to "accelerate development of fuel-efficient powertrains." Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn and Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche said that the deal includes development of a new four-cylinder gasoline engine family. "The direct-injection turbocharged engine will feature state-of-the-art technology in a compact package. It targets low emissions as well as a significant improvement in fuel economy," according to a joint press statement from the companies.
