U.S. EPA Unveils CO2 Rule for New Power Plants

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on March 27 unveiled its first-ever carbon-dioxide (CO2) proposed rule for future power plants, including integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plants. The new proposed rule follows a 2007 U.S. Supreme Court ruling, EPA said. The proposed rule includes an “output-based standard of 1,000 pounds of CO2 per megawatt-hour gross,” according to the agency.
