In the internet era when traditional print journals seem to operate on a glacial timescale, one might be forgiven for initially assuming that the era of scientific exposition in book format is scarcely viable. The great thing about Diane Perez's new book is that it proves that a well-written, multiauthored scientific monograph still has a vibrant role in the biomedical research enterprise. This volume is the 15th in a long-running (since 1983) series of monographs on receptors, edited by Kim A. Neve. In this volume, Diane Perez has pulled together many of the major contributors in adrenergic receptor physiology and pharmacology to create a broad-based introduction which is both comprehensible and accessible.
