The EU refining sector is likely to continue shrinking thanks to lower-cost competition from Middle Eastern, Asian and North American refiners that are boosting output of ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) fuel, according to a new study by U.K.-based GlobalData. “With new and more efficient refineries coming online in the Middle East and Asia this year, combined with lower-cost product imports from the U.S., European refineries are being squeezed out of their local and export markets,” according to GlobalData managing analyst Carmine Rositano.
