Celanese, Mitsui to Build US$800-Million Methanol Plant in Texas

Dallas-based chemical giant Celanese and Tokyo-based Mitsui announced May 15 a joint venture to build a US$800-million, 1.3 million-ton-per-year methanol plant at a Celanese chemical plant in Clear Lake, Texas. The facility is expected to begin operations in mid-2015. “The planned methanol unit will utilize abundant, low-cost natural gas in the U.S. Gulf Coast region as a feedstock and will benefit from the existing infrastructure at Celanese’s Clear Lake facility,” according to Celanese.
