Beijing Moves to Euro-5 Vehicle Standards; Plans Euro-6 in 2016

The Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform (BMCDR) announced February 24 that the city will adopt Euro-5 vehicle-emissions standards shortly, although the agency didn’t give a specific date. According to a report from Xinhua news service, the new “National 5” standard (equivalent to Euro-5) will apply to passenger vehicles. Euro-5 limits require diesel and gasoline sulfur levels at no more than 10 parts per million.
