California-based solar panel installer SolarCity, private-equity investor U.S. Renewables Group, BofA Merrill Lynch and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced September 7 that the DOE would put up a "partial guarantee" for a US$344-million loan to cover the costs of installing up to 160,000 solar-power rooftops at as many as 124 U.S. military housing developments.
