Scania, Siemens on Electric Trucks, Buses: Overhead Wires, Road Induction

Sweden-based Scania announced March 11 that it’s teaming up with Siemens AG to develop diesel-electric hybrid powertrains for trucks and buses, tapping novel technologies including overhead-pantograph wires (conductive power) or buried road wires that would employ electricinduction technology. “The partnership means that Sweden may become the world’s first country with electrically powered trucks and electrified roads for commercial use,” according to Scania.
