The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) on February 27 announced in its This Week in Petroleum report that U.S. middle-distillate fuel consumption declined in 2012 mostly because of declining U.S. heating-oil and railroad diesel consumption. However, U.S. exports of diesel fuel – overwhelmingly ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) fuel – more than offset the U.S. distillate-consumption decline.
