DOE Awards US$16 Million for Wave, Tidal-Power R&D

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) on August 29 announced US$16 million in grants for 17 research projects aimed at boosting power generation from waves, tides, and currents. Of that total, $13.5 million will support eight projects to develop “new drivetrain, generator and structural components as well as develop software that predicts ocean conditions and adjusts device settings accordingly to optimize power production,” according to the DOE.
