China’s Per-Capita CO2 Emissions Reach European Levels

China not only is by far the world’s worst carbon-dioxide (CO2) polluter on a gross tonnage basis, but also has now nearly reached the per-capita CO2 emissions of Europe, according to a new study released July 20 by the Joint Research Center (JRC) of the European Commission. The JRC report also found that global CO2 emissions continued to increase in 2011, by 3%, reaching an all-time high of 34 billion tonnes in 2011.
