Scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNG) announced February 12 that fusion energy has taken a huge step forward. “Ignition – the process of releasing fusion energy equal to or greater than the amount of energy used to confine the fuel – has long been considered the ‘holy grail’ of inertial confinement fusion science,” according to LLNL.
