U.S., EU Team Up on EV-Recharge Standards, ‘Smart Grid’

The European Commission Joint Research Center (JRC) announced July 18 the start-up of the first of two research centers aimed at promoting common standards in electricvehicle (EV) recharge systems and “smart-grid” electric-power systems in both Europe and North America. “Converging standards and interoperability between smart grids and EVs will allow for deeper penetration of renewable energies in the electricity systems, thus facilitating the way to a low-carbon economy,” according to JRC.
