Hybrid and electric vehicles will play a big part in meeting fleet CO_2 targets but CNG vehicles could be doing that now - if the infrastructure develops. Running on methane, Volkswagen's Golf compact emits 92g/km. Electrified powertrains are very efficient but add a lot of cost to the vehicle and battery packaging is problematic.
