In experiments conducted in Germany during 1999, 2000 and 2001-03, wind bent grass (Apera spica-venti) population was reduced by 25% with the application of Monitor [sulfosulfuron], Attribut and Atlantis WG. The weed population was reduced by up to 50% with a tank mixture of the herbicides. In short-straw cereal cultivars and fragmentary cereal populations, herbicide efficiency varies and depends more on weather conditions than on the intensity of infestation by wind bent grass. Sulfonylurea at reduced rates can be integrated into plant protection reduction programmes. To prevent resistance, sulfonylurea at reduced rates should be used only with other herbicide groups in cereal-based crop rotation and wheat monocultures.
