Georgia is blessed with an abundance of native plants, some of which outshine anything ever imported into this country. Native plants have some clear advantages over many exotics. They are adapted to the climate. From late freezes to drought, they have the ability to withstand a lot of climate-related abuse. They are adapted to the soils and native pests. They are intricately linked to native wildlife, some of which are dependent upon them for survival. Using plants native to your area provides a safe haven as they lose habitat to human encroachment and eliminates the danger of introducing another non-native invasive pest plants which currently cost the U.S. taxpayers about 100 million dollar each year.
