Mandelshtam-Brillouin and Rayleigh scattering in As_2S_3 and GeS_2 chalcogenide glasses is investigated.Longitudinal hypersonic velocities,adiabatic elastooptical constants (p_(12))_(ad) at frequencies approx 15 GHz,extinction coefficients,and scattering losses are determined.
