A modeling of the dissolution of water in sodium borate melts containing from 0 to 60 mol % Na_2O is performed within a thermodynamic approach.The equilibrium concentrations of water in the melts and glasses at different pressures of water vapors and different compositions of glasses are calculated from available thermodynamic data on the standard Gibbs energies DELTAG_r~0 for the reactions of formation of hydrates of the initial and resultant compounds (borates) and the chemical potentials of oxides.It is shown that the proposed model makes a correct quantitative prediction of the solubility of water in these melts and glasses.
