A two day workshop held at Long Beach State in May, 1985, consisted of demonstrations, inspection of experimental samples, conferences, and hands-on work. The hands-on work was primarily with copper tooling foil. This was definitely not a workshop about traditional techniques. 'Strike-Fired' Enamel 1. Take 0.005" or 0.010" copper foil (also known as 32 and 36 gauge foils) and apply liquid flux in varying thicknesses in a non-objective or pictorial composition. Soft-fusing liquid flux will perform best; medium-fusing flux tends to have a little less luster and takes a longer firing time. 2. Enamel should be let dry, until it will not run when held at an angle (unless running spills are desired in the composition). 3. Copper may be rolled or folded if large pieces are used. Where the copper touches itself, there will be a lack of oxidation, and pinker to red tones will appear among darker areas.
