Shale of the century

To celebrate the Centennial, the Burgess Shale GeoscienceFoundation will be holding a series of celebrations, under thetheme of 'Putting the Earth back into the Sciences'. The events are designed to appeal to both geologists and members of thepublic, and include guided hikes to the fossil sites, a series ofpublic lectures, art activities for children and even a historicalre-enactment (on horseback, and in period costume). Thecelebrations will begin with a keynote speech from Canadianastronaut Dr Roberta Bondar, who will give a talk entitled TheFossil and the Astronaut - Exploring Earth from Inner andOuter Space.
