Choice between anhydrous borax and borax hydrates

Anhydrous borax and/or hydrated borax are used in glass formulations to supply the essential boric oxide and sodium oxide components. Commercially available hydrates of borax are borax pentahydrate and borax decahydrate. The present paper highlights the advantages of using anhydrous borax in glass formulations.
