Newly developed comprehensive geriatric assessment initiative 'Dr. SUPERMAN' as a convenient screening test

Comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) is a keystone for improving and maintaining the quality of life (QOL) of elderly patients. However, CGA consists of a variety of assessments in physical, psychosocial and functional (activities of daily living [ADL]) abilities, and in environmental resources and problems. Therefore, CGA with multiple components and time-consuming consultation can lead to difficulty in providing primary care. Recently, we have developed a concise screening test for CGA named, "Dr. SUPERMAN" (English appendix), and we used the Japanese version to examine 110 outpatients with various chronic diseases, such as Alzheimer disease (37 cases), osteoarthritis (20 cases), cerebrovascular disease (16 cases), depression or anxiety (12 cases) and cardiopulmonary diseases (10 cases). Here, the usefulness and limitations of "Dr. SUPERMAN" focusing on the English version are discussed, in addition to the results obtained using the Japanese version of "Dr. SUPERMAN".
