Varved sediments in the Pyrenees

Staying in the mountains of northern Spain, but moving east to the Pyrenees, another series of lake sediments have recently been used to unlock the record of climate and environmental change. Late Montcortes is one of few lakes in the Pre-Pyrenean Range of NE Spain, and is in an area sensitive to climate change. Mean monthly temperatures range from 1.9 °C in January through to 20.3 °C in July, with summer daily temperatures exceeding 25 °C.
