Henry Clifton Sorby: a founder of geoconservation?

Having read the feature by Okada & Kenyon Smith (Geology Today, 2009, v.25, pp.211-218) describing the contribution of Henry Clifton Sorby to the founding of sedimentology, I am prompted to write and ask a question I have been intending to ask for some time. Namely, is Sorby also the founding father of site-based geoconservation in England?
