Feature/Highlights of Jurassic Warwickshire

Warwickshire's Lower and Middle Jurassic strata demonstrate many lines of evidence for the existence of marine environments in central England between about 205 and 165 million years before present. The overall stratigraphy and palaeontology was established during the 19th and early 20th centuries when the rocks were widely exposed in quarries and cuttings. The remaining sites and temporary exposures continue to reveal new features of geological importance, notably fossils, adding considerably to our knowledge of central England during Jurassic times. Prospects for further discoveries are good, given the current level of interest in Warwickshire's geology by geoconservation specialists, researchers and amateur groups.
