摘要

It is now close to 46 years ago that the Canada Land Inventory (CLI) spurred the development and imple-mentation of the Canada Geographic Information System, the first GIS in the world. I had just joined the CLI team in Manitoba. Just 6 months after my graduation, I was going to be part of the largest multi-disciplinary resource survey carried out in the world! An area of 3 million km~2 would be classified for its land capability for agriculture, forestry, recreation, wildlife (ungulates and waterfowl), sport fish and land use!
