The Cartosat-1 Earth observation satellite, also known as IRS-P5, was launched by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on May 5, 2005, to meet the increasing demand for large-scale topographic mapping and terrain modelling applications To meet these requirements Caitosat-1 carries two panchromatic CCD sensors, the PAN Fore (+26°) and the PAN Aft (-5°), which generate along-track stereoscopic images of the area.
