Quasi-Biennial Oscillations of the Solar Magnetic Field and Heliogeomagnetic Activity

Data on the solar magnetic fields at the source surface and on the heliogeomagnetic indices for 1960-1999 have been used to statistically analyze the structure of the relationships between quasi-biennial oscillations (QBOs) of the solar magnetic field and heliogeomagnetic activity. Three full solar cycles (20-23) have been considered both separately and together. It has been found that (1) QBOs of all considered heliogeo-magnetic indices correlate significantly with magnetic QBOs of the solar king's zone; (2) the degree of corre-lation is approximately the same for solar and geomagnetic activities; (3) QBOs of the hemispheric indices of solar activity display almost equal correlation with magnetic QBOs in both hemispheres; and (4) the 22-yearsolar cycle is noticeable in the correlation between solar and magnetic QBOs in the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Results of an analysis suggest that QBOs of solar activity, geomagnetic variations, and global variations of the solar magnetic field have a common source, and their parameters are affected by the 22-year cycle.
