Up until 15 years ago this area of the world was rarelyvisited by surfers but that has all changed. Since the mid-90s, a growing number of travelling surfers have discoveredthe waves of the Mentawai Islands and the area now ratesas one of the premier surfing destinations in the world. Thevariety, quality and consistency of the waves being producedby the Polar Lows are becoming legendary. This has resultedin a substantial surf charter boat industry along with somenewly built land camps and modest resorts.
