Facile Conversion of Epoxides to Thiiranes with Ammonium Thiocyanate Catalyzed with Etidronic Acid

Thiiranes are frequently used in the pharmaceutical, polymer, pesticide, and herbicide industries. Particularly, thiiranes have played an important role in various synthetic transformations . Various methods have been developed for the preparation of these compounds. The most common and important method is the transformation of oxiranes into thiiranes with thiourea, inorganic thiocyanates, Dowex-50WX8-supported thiourea, polymer-supported thiocyanates.
