INTERVIEW: New Developments in Mass Spectrometry

Mass spectrometry (MS) is probably one of the techniques that has developed the most in the last few years. The IMSC, 18th International Mass Spectrometry Conference, an event dedicated to MS had been held in Bremen, Germany, from August 30 to September 4, 2009. One of the manufacturers at IMSC was Agilent, which presented itself as a solution provider showing not only MS systems but full analytical solutions including separation techniques and application software. Dr. Katja Habermueller, GIT-VERLAG, talked to Ken Miller, Senior Global Marketing Manager, Agilent at IMSC in Bremen Our fast track kits are intended to reduce the complexity of method start-up and to speed up the time to application mastery. We took a holistic view of many popular applications and then tried to combine everything required for a laboratory, hence it can run quickly and effectively - we recommend an optimal instrument configuration and then include sample preparation procedures and consumables, instrument methods, columns, standards, targeted compound databases and libraries, and report templates. We also include application-specific tutorials and training materials. Some of our kits are pre-tested at our factory, and an installation check-out is available for all kits. Strikingly, we can now offer kits for environmental, food, forensic, and petrochemical testing which are based on LC, GC, GC/MS or LC/MS systems, as appropriate for the application.
