The subject-matter presented as geographythrough popular media, such as geographicalmagazines, often appears to pay little regard to theacademic/school discipline of Geography. Recentdevelopments in a number of those magazines clearlyillustrate the lack of interaction between the two, a lackthat is long-established in some countries (such as theUSA) but one which has developed more recentlyelsewhere (as in the UK). Such a divide poses majorissues for the academic discipline, which geographersneed to address.
