Short list of viable proposed IGCC power and polygeneration projects

Uncertainty over carbon regulations and steeply escalating project costs have resulted in numerous cancellations leaving a short list of projects strong enough to survive, including a number of polygen projects designed for C0{sub}2 capture and sequestration operation that are most likely to succeed. The much-heralded "rush to coal" at the turn of the century has come to a near standstill. In mid-February 2008, a DOE/NETL report observed that new coal-based generating plant capacity commissioned since 2000 in the U.S. has been far less than new capacity announced.
