Triarylmethane (TAM) compounds, which are sometimes called 'leuco-TAMs' (LTAMs) or leuco-bases' are triarylat-ed methane derivatives, as the name indicates. Because TAM~+ dyes can be formed from the oxidation of LTAM molecules, LTAM molecules are regarded as precursors of TAM~+ dyes.
