Throughout the long, dry summer and into the fall, with natural gas prices below $3 per thousand cubic feet (Mcf) and predictions of a further drop to below $2, the Marcellus shale play has remained an oasis of E&P activity. Rig activity is on the rise. Reports of drilling success, with enviable initial production (IP) rates, have been plentiful. Operators continue to wage bidding wars for prime acreage.
