Austria adopts EC’s 3rd energy package and paves way for one main gas market area

Austria’s government has passed a new amendment to the gas industry law, incorporating the requirements of the European Commission’s third energy package, the economics ministry said in a statement. The new rules will lead to the creation of one main gas market area in Austria - next to two other minor gas zones, Tirol and Vorarlberg - which will be operated independently from the country’s new virtual trading point. The third energy package comes into force today.
