Bangladesh issues tender for $1 billion LNG project

The Bangladesh government has invited bids to build the country's first floating LNG facility on a build-own-operate and transfer basis. State-owned Petrobangla wants the $1 billion project to be operational by 2012 to help alleviate a growing gas shortfall. Keen to speed the project forward, PetroBangla has requested all bids be submitted before the end of the year and the company is readying to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Qatar Petroleum for the import of 3-4 mtpa of LNG within the next few weeks.
