The Nigerian Army said Tuesday that a natural gas pipeline feeding the Shell-operated Utorogu plant in the Niger Delta was attacked by local youths over the weekend, even though a ceasefire has been agreed between militants and the army following a presidential amnesty offer.Joint Task Force (JTF) spokesman Colonel Rabe Abubakar confirmed the attack on the pipeline that transports gas from a nearby field to the gas plant jointly owned by Shell Nigeria and the state-owned Nigeria Gas Company, claiming "aggrieved" local youths, not militants, were behind the attack. The JTF "are there to secure the facilities" and have contacted the community leaders, "who agreed there would not be attacks again," he said.
