EUROPE - PIPELINES StatoilHydro set to join Trans Adriatic Pipeline project

StatoilHydro and Swiss utility Elektrizitaets-Gesellschaft Laufenburg (EGL) announced yesterday that they will establish an equal joint venture to build the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), which will provide route for Caspian and, later, Middle East gas to European markets. The 513 km TAP will run from western Greece, through Albania to Brindisi in Italy, with a 117 km offshore section in the Adriatic Sea. Some of the gas will be used to supply EGL’s gas-fired combined cycle power plants in Italy, while part will to be used for onward supplies to Western Europe. According to EGL, the capacity of the pipeline will be around 10Bcm/year, with the opion to expand this to 20Bcm/year.
